Today we went through Indiana and have so far journeyed up through Iowa to get to South Dakota! We visited the reconstructed town in which President Lincoln grew up. We made up for a lot of time thanks to the estimates of time spent in locations that we came together and created a few days before we left. We started our day in Lizton, Indiana, and before leaving took an amazing photo of my mother in front of the rest stop sign.

It was quite ironic, considering the common nickname for my mother’s full name is Liz. After that we ate a quick breakfast and left for Lincoln’s New Salem in Illinois. It was an amazing walk, and I would consider the town a much smaller scale of Colonial Williamsburg, just without the people working.

After a nice hour of walking through and seeing what the quaint little place had to offer, we decided to visit the gift shop. Both Chris and I bought a book, planning to read on the long drives ahead.
After that, we drove to Lincoln’s Tomb. We managed to arrive right before the tour of Lincoln’s Tomb moved forward into the site. We got the chance to enter the historical site and look at the wonders it beheld.

After that, we drove through the cemetery surrounding the tomb, with me getting out and running around for a good photo-op.

Yes, I did run through the blistering heat just for these pictures. Before we left, we took the chance to use the restrooms, and outside was a bench made of recycled milk jugs.

After the amazing walk (and run) today, we moved towards a Cracker Barrel and ate a hearty meal. Now we’ll drive, and update you tomorrow in the morning. I hope you all are having a wonderful night, because I sure am!
