Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial

At the end of today, after visiting Custer State Park, we traveled to Mount Rushmore to take a look at the monument. They were doing construction at the site, most likely renewing a path. From a distance you could see the heads of Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, and Roosevelt. We also had the chance to see the alley of flags leading up to the lookout for the presidents forever carved in stone.

After our time spent at Mount Rushmore, we drove to see Crazy Horse Memorial, made in honor of Crazy Horse. Crazy Horse was one of the Native Americans who fought and won in several tribal fights. He died in an altercation, which witnesses say was caused by a mistranslation. The current memorial is still a work in progress, even after the original carver passed in. The family continues the work taking donations from visitors of the museum. So far the face has been finished and there is still much left.

As an extra bonus before we end today, on our way out we saw a truck carrying hay bales! Never seen that one before right?!

Anyways, that’s all for today folks. Tune in tomorrow for Montana and Little Bighorn!
